Basic Training Course
This is a 5-week course designed to help you teach your dog how to be a well-behaved companion. I use modern, gentle, reward based training methods and the course is suitable for all breeds and sizes of dogs from 14 weeks of age that have a current vaccination.
The Basic Training Course includes teaching your dog how to:
- Walk on a loose lead
- Come when called
- Sit & lie quietly
- Not jump on you or your visitors
- Drop
- Give & take toys
- Stay
- Heel
- Leave objects/food/other animals
- Wait at open doorways
- Tolerate handling & grooming
- Play appropriately
The course has been designed to be flexible to suit your individual needs and those of your dog and there are opportunities to discuss individual problems either as a group, or privately with me during the course.
You will gain an understanding of:
- Reward based training
- Dog behaviour
- How to prevent and solve minor behavioural problems
Students of this course will have the opportunity to be assessed for the obedience-training discount on their dog’s council registration.
Classes are held at various times –see table below . For your comfort and to enable uninterrupted year round training, the venues are indoors.
The first class is 2 hours in duration and is held without dogs (light refreshments are provided). Subsequent classes are 50 minutes in duration, with dogs. All members of your family or household are encouraged to attend the course. Please note that an adult must accompany children under the age of 16 .
Class numbers are limited to 5 - 7 dogs (depending on venue) to ensure individual attention for you and your dog during the course and bookings are essential. The course fee is $110.00 and is payable in advance. To enrol in a course, please download the Basic Training Enrolment form; complete the application form and post it, along with your payment to Scholars in Collars, PO Box 170 , Birdwood SA 5234
