Canine Good Citizen Course
This is a fun, intermediate–advanced 5-week course for dogs aged over 12 months and is designed to have a Canine Good Citizen ™ . Each class is an hour in duration. Students of this course will be invited to be assessed for the Canine Good Citizen ™ award and, if successful in achieving the award, will be entitled to use the letters CGC after their dog’s name.
Dogs must have a current vaccination and, because of the course format, dogs must be people and dog friendly.
The course comprises of obedience exercises, handling and grooming exercises, socialisation and owner education sessions.
Desired Outcomes:
- Your dog will walk confidently on a loose lead along a crowded street, passing other dogs and everyday distractions
- Your dog will sit quietly beside you while you stop and talk to another person
- Your dog will sit beside you while being petted by a stranger
- Your dog will stand still for grooming, and tolerate visiting a veterinary surgery and being examined and handled by an unfamiliar person
- Your dog will stay briefly in either a sit or drop position
- Your dog has learned road safety – to wait until its lead is attached before getting out of a car
- Your dog will come back when it’s called and sit while a lead is attached
- Your dog will tolerate being separated from you for a short while
The minimum pre requisite for dogs and their owners wishing to enrol in this course is the Basic Training Course, however, it is suggested that you and your dog complete the Beyond Basics Course prior to enrolling in the Canine Good Citizen ™ Course.
If your dog has not completed a Scholars in Collars course you and your dog must have graduated from another course conducted by a Delta accredited instructor, or have reached up to Grade 4 in a dog club. Students who have been attending a dog club may be required to undertake additional reading and/or private tuition in positive motivational training prior to commencing this course. Alexis will gladly discuss your individual needs and situation with you prior to your enrolment.
Classes are held at various venues in the Adelaide Hills. All venues are indoors for comfortable all year round training and provide a safe environment in which to train your dog off lead.
