Puppy Training

Puppy relief today and a
canine scholar tomorrow

Puppies are adorable and challenging in equal measure.

Scholars in Collars group class and private puppy programs are designed to enhance the adorable while meeting the challenges.

We recommend Puppy Promenade, Puppy Playgroups and Puppy Un-Chase!® for building an unflappable adult dog – one who can meet any situation with calm grace. Sit next to you at a busy outdoor café? Got it. Visit a friend’s farm? No problem.

If you’ve got a specific puppy issue you could use an extra measure of help with – house training, puppy biting, inappropriate chewing, and the like – a little private training is just the thing.

Puppy Playgroups

Our drop-in playgroups are a perfect complement to your vet’s puppy preschool class, particularly for owners looking forward to an adult dog who is comfortable, relaxed, and on her best manners around people and other dogs. Plus we guarantee puppy playgroup will be the best 30 minutes of your week – what could be better than a room full of puppies playing? Guided by a professional dog trainer, your pup learns her social P’s and Q’s while burning off excess energy in play – which means a better night’s sleep for you.

For: Puppies between the ages of 8 to 16 weeks with at least one set of vaccinations. The whole family is warmly welcomed, including children!

Where and when: Saturday or Sunday mornings in Balhannah

Cost: $20 per 30-minute playgroup

Is your pup ready to play? Space is limited to 6 puppies per playgroup, so Register today!

Puppy Un-Chase!®

You can always teach an adult dog to stop chasing cars, wildlife, and farm animals – but it’s a lot easier to teach a puppy not to pick up these unwanted hobbies in the first place. If you’ve got a breed inclined to chase, or a puppy of any kind who you’ll want to have around other animals as an adult, Puppy Un-Chase!® is a smart puppy raising investment. Plus it’s an awful lot of good fun!

For: Fully vaccinated puppies between the ages of 3 to 7 months

Where and when: Saturdays or Sundays at the Scout Hall on Pye Road in Balhannah

Cost: $120 for 3 one-hour sessions

Socialisation: the key to building your canine scholar

Canine behavioural science has come a long way in the last two decades, and that includes research on the connection between early puppy socialisation and adult dog behaviour. We know beyond doubt that early socialisation – exposing young puppies to positive experiences in the world they’ll live in – is the most effective thing pet parents can do to enjoy a relaxed, social dog they can be proud to take anywhere.

Want your dog to be able to easily handle walking down a crowded, busy street?

She needs to get out there and practice as a puppy. Looking forward to a dog who friends and neighbours love to have over? She should visit them now while she’s a puppy. Want a dog who’s relaxed and appropriate around wildlife or farm animals? You’re more likely to get that dog if the puppy she is now learns how to handle herself around other species.

But is it safe?

Done right, absolutely. For best peace of mind, trust your puppy’s socialisation to a certified professional dog trainer who works closely with veterinarians to create a safe experience for you and your pup.

Positive training for positive results

Part of safe socialisation – and training, too – is our commitment to scientifically-sound, force-free training. We use only positive, reward-based training methods to ensure your puppy learns to love training while learning her manners.
