Small Dog Basic Training Course
This is a 5-week course specifically designed to help you teach your small dog how to be a well-behaved companion. This course has been particularly designed to meet the special and individual needs of your small dog. The training techniques are specifically formulated for their small statures and distinctive personalities. The training environment is relaxed and comfortable for you and your small companion, eliminating any stressors involved with breed size differences. I use modern, gentle, reward based training methods and the course is suitable for all breeds of small dogs weighing 10kgs or less, of all ages (over 14 weeks) that have a current vaccination.
Dog numbers are limited to 5 dogs per class, to ensure individual attention for you and your dog and to enable flexibility to suit your personal needs. There are opportunities to discuss individual problems either as a group, or privately with me during the course.
The Small Dog Basic Training Course includes teaching your dog how to:
• Walk nicely on a loose lead
• Come when called
• Sit, Drop & Stand
• Not jump on people
• Settle & lie quietly
• Stay
• Heel
• Leave objects/food/other animals
• Wait at open doorways
• Tolerate handling & grooming
• Play appropriately with dogs and people
You will gain an understanding of:
• Dog behavior – particularly relating to small breeds
• How to prevent and solve minor behavioural problems such as barking and house training
For your comfort and to enable uninterrupted year round training, all venues are indoors and air conditioned. Please refer to the table below for the current schedule of courses. The first class is 2 hours in duration and is held without dogs (light refreshments are provided). Subsequent classes are 50 minutes in duration, with dogs. All members of your family or household are encouraged to attend the course. Please note that an adult must accompany children under the age of 16 .
